Successfully introduced Lean into the Pharmacy with reductions in dispensing lead times and returns to the Pharmacy directly impacting on patient discharge times.
Engaged to imbed Lean thinking within the Hospital Pharmacy. Staff were engaged through an “Introduction to Lean Workshop” where the key Lean principles and tools where covered and the identification of improvements which could be made.
The first area was the Pharmacy Manager’s Office, which was “5S-ed” This demonstrated commitment and was followed by a number of other projects which engaged the wider hospital.
The “as-is” processes were measured and then small groups developed solutions, implemented them and measured their impact.
The solutions adopted included dispensing closer to the patients to reduce dispensing lead times which in turn reduced dispensing lead times.
